Common Questions

How do I apply for registration as a Professional Engineer?

Create an account on the ERB Management Information System at registration.erb.go.tz, complete the online application form, upload your supporting documents, and await ERB's vetting and approval. See the full process on the Registration page.

How long does the registration process take?

The standard processing time for individual engineer registration is 4 to 8 weeks from the date of submission of a complete application. Firm registration typically takes 4–6 weeks. Incomplete applications may take longer.

How do I renew my ERB registration annually?

Log in to the MIS portal, navigate to "Annual Renewal", confirm your details are up to date, submit your CPD hours for the year, and pay the applicable renewal fee via GePG. Renewal is due by 31 March each year.

Can a foreign engineer practice in Tanzania?

Foreign engineers may practice in Tanzania by obtaining Temporary Engineer (TE) registration, which is project-specific. The application must be co-signed by a Tanzanian Professional or Consulting Engineer registered with ERB. EAC-recognised engineers may benefit from the Mutual Recognition Agreement.

How many CPD hours do I need per year?

Professional Engineers (PE) require 40 CPD hours per year, Consulting Engineers (CE) require 50 hours, and Engineering Technicians (ET) require 20 hours. At least 50% of these must be "structured" CPD activities such as SOPEL courses, seminars, or workshops.
